WIND SURFING

Surfing & Windsurfing is a popular water sport among foreign tourists who visit the palm fringed pristine beaches of Sri Lanka. The most popular surfing beaches of the island are Hikkaduwa of the South Western coastal belt and Arugam Bay (which is an International surfing competition venue) of the Eastern coastal belt of Sri Lanka. Since the early 60’s, Sri Lanka has attracted surfers from all over the world. The windsurfing opportunities offered in Sri Lanka attracts amateur windsurfers as well as world class windsurfers participating in international windsurfing competitions.

Advantages of Windsurfing in Sri Lanka
Sri Lanka being a tropical island, the windsurfer does not need to wear protective clothing against the cold winds that might be encountered on the beaches. However, a protective coating of lotion would save your skin from the bright tropical sun when surfing the Indian Ocean.

Sri Lanka affords the opportunity to locate a windsurfing beach in line with the skill level of the windsurfing enthusiasts: from beginners to the Professional Windsurfer. The tranquil waters of the Bentota river or any of the coastal lagoons or Sri Lanka’s ancient vast irrigation reservoirs offer ample opportunities to every novice so that he / she would dare taking the challenge of the ocean.

Sri Lanka’s Scuba Diving sites offer opportunities for all to enjoy wreck diving, explore reefs and their abundance of marine life. Sri Lanka is an all year round Scuba Diving destination. Most of the reputed dive centers offer PADI certifications that may take about 3 to 4 days to complete.

SNORKELING

Often referred to as the ‘pearl in the Indian Ocean', Sri Lanka offers world-class Scuba-Diving and Snorkelling tours. A multitude of tropical fish, magnificently colourful coral reefs and fascinating ship wrecks can be explored at several locations off the south coast of Sri Lanka.

HIKKADUWA , WELIGAMA and KIRINDA provide breathtaking snorkeling and scuba diving opportunities. In the west of Sri Lanka , head to ‘Bar Reef' (Sri Lanka's largest reef, easily accessible from the Puttalam district town of KALPITIYA , spanning an impressive 3 nautical miles in length and 1 nautical mile in breadth). But for the country's ‘pièce de resistance', Pigeon Island , off Nilaveli (just north of TRINCOMALEE ) is a paradise of turquoise-coloured waters and abundant fish and coral life make it the ultimate underwater experience.

All underwater activities are conducted by well-trained and experienced UDI and PADI instructors to ensure your absolute safety and enjoyment.

N.B. Due to the monsoon seasons, west coast diving and snorkelling is generally best from November to April whilst the east coast waters are at their calmest April - September.

JET SKI RIDES

If you are a thrill seeker and you love water, then jet skiing is all for you. Also known as a personal water craft (PWC), a jet ski is nothing but an aquatic motorbike with skis attached to it to glide safely on water at a very fast pace. Skiing against the tide, letting the waves lift you and flying through the sea mist at times will equal to no other sense of exhilaration you will experience. BOAT RIDES

However those suffering from heart ailments, epilepsy as well as those who are uncomfortable in turbulent waters aren’t advised to go White Water Rafting.
